FROM THE DESK OF SCOTT SHARMAN
This Sunday, March 7, could be the most pivotal day in the history of our church.
I have served as Lead Pastor of Alsbury since our beginning in 1994. Eighteen months ago, in August of 2019, I announced my intention to retire.
A twelve-member Next Pastor Search Team* was formed in January of 2020, tasked with bringing an individual before the church family as their recommendation for our next Lead Pastor. That individual is John Mark Tittsworth.
John Mark is no stranger to Alsbury. He, Laura, and their children have been part of our church family for ten years. John Mark serves our congregation as a Deacon, leads a Life Group, and regularly delivers Sunday morning sermons.
John Mark is a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene (B.S.), Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY (M.Div.), and Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth (PhD). Prior to Ph.D. studies, John Mark served for seven years as pastor to a church in Taylorsville, KY.
A called business meeting is scheduled for this Sunday, March 7, immediately following morning services to respond to this recommendation from our Next Pastor Search Team. Members of Alsbury Baptist Church may vote both in-person and on-line.
If approved, John Mark and I will serve together as Lead Pastors through the end of 2022. John Mark will join our church staff immediately, engaging with our church staff and committees. He will preach on Sundays with increasing frequency. Over the following twenty-one months his role will grow as mine decreases, replacing me fully in January, 2022.
Many have asked about the plans Phyllis and I have made. We hope to remain active in the Alsbury family, supporting John Mark in what we believe will be our greatest days yet as a church family.
Join us in praying over this important day in our church. We hope to see you Sunday – whether in-person or on-line – as we begin the transition into a glorious future together.
