This Sunday, Alsbury is having our “One Family, One Service” with a special youth emphasis. Almost every element of the worship experience will have the involvement of a teenager’s influence.
When discussing the plans for Sunday with a friend, I was told, “What a great experience to train the future leaders of tomorrow.” While I originally agreed, the more I have thought about it the more I believe that statement is selling our teenagers short.
Our youth are not idly sitting on the sidelines
waiting their turn for their number to be called.
The reality is, here at Alsbury the teenagers are important members of the church today. Our youth are not idly sitting on the sidelines waiting their turn for their number to be called. The youth of Alsbury are regularly involved in service and meaningful ministry right now! You have seen youth helping to lead music on a Sunday in the past, but our youth serve in many ways. Visiting the Kid’s ministry would reveal teenagers who are leaders in L.A.B. and VBS. Youth are part of the regular nursery rotation and have worked on the lawn crew. Our teenagers participate in mission trips to Amarillo and Mexico and in the Collaboration each year. The youth have adopted families to provide gifts during Christmas, sponsored children through Compassion International, and performed housework for church members. Small groups cook and deliver food to families in need. Don’t be surprised to stop by the Forever Friends class and see a teenager helping there, too. The youth are involved and serving all throughout the life of our church.
I am excited to see what God has in the coming days for our teenagers as they continue to walk with God throughout their lives, but I am just as excited to witness God using these teenagers in ministry today. Sunday will be just a brief snapshot of what is happening on a regular basis. It is just another example of what makes Alsbury such a special place and why I love to be able to call Alsbury home.
