Christmas is a time of happiness, laughter, and good cheer.
Well, that is what it is supposed to be, at least we are told. But for many of us, that is not the case. The holidays are actually a stressful time. Money is tight and giving gifts is difficult. This time of year reminds us of loved ones who are no longer with us. We live with divided families and are caught in the middle of trying to keep the peace and make everyone happy.
The holidays are anything but those peaceful days full of good cheer we hear sung to us on the radio.
In the midst of our stress, there is the reality of discovering true joy. Two thousand years ago, the angels appeared to some shepherds to say, “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people” (Luke 2:10).
Joy is not something we can manufacture or to be found in our circumstances.
True joy is a result of good news… THE good news.
God has chosen to invade history, enter into our personal story to provide salvation through this baby born at Christmas. Our joy is based upon and sustained through Jesus Christ and him alone.
So this Christmas, remember that our God has never abandoned us in our stress filled lives, but came to rescue us. And that is our reason for great joy!
