The Underlying Influence to Prayer

The Underlying Influence to Prayer

Want a more dynamic prayer life… do you have a healthy, Biblical perspective of faith?

Have you ever thought about what influences your prayers?  What motivates you to pray? What is your confidence level in your prayers being effective?  I think we all would agree that prayer is important… but what is the underlying factors that impact your prayer life?

Your Perception of Faith

One of the biggest influences on your prayer life is your understanding of FAITH.  How you pray and the content of your prayers will vary greatly based on your thoughts and perception of faith.  Some view faith as a mystical, powerful force that if we can tap into it, then we can make God do what we want. Others view faith more like a secret code or formula: “If I pray, read my Bible, and go to the pastor’s bible study on Wednesdays, then God has to answer my prayers.”  If we can find just the right sequence, the key to unlocking the door to heaven, then blessing will flow our way. With this type of view of faith, our prayers become small and self-serving.

A proper understanding of faith

Confidence that God is who He says He is and He will do everything that He has promised to do.

With this Biblical definition of faith guiding us, our prayers begin to transform.

  • The focus becomes less about us and more about God.
  • Less about what God can do for me and more about how I can join God in what He is doing.
  • We find that the situations and circumstances of the moment do not derail us from the bigger picture of God’s plan of redemption for all people.
  • Kingdom impact becomes the focus of our prayers.
  • We begin praying life transforming prayers and not simply a more personally comfortable experience.
