Jesus said, “A thief is only there to steal, kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of (John 10:10 MSG).
He stated his purpose unambiguously.
Jesus intends that you and I would experience “life, and life to the full.” Life that is “overflowing, abundant, plentiful, and bursting forth.” All who stand in opposition to Christ have exact opposite intentions.
This life Jesus plans is not measured by personal wealth.
If it is, Jesus has overlooked impoverished Christians all around the world.
This life Jesus provides is not dependent upon personal health.
If it is, Jesus has overlooked Christians who live with chronic illness and untreatable disease.
No, abundant life is measured by a much different standard that what the world employs. Personal income and physical comfort, even when “abundant,” are temporary. The abundant life Jesus brings is rooted in the intimacy of a personal walk with him.
Knowing him is at the center of abundance.
Those who possess less than I of what the world says is important for meaning and joy, yet live rich, full, satisfying lives humble me. They live in abundance, with meaning, and are full of joy while possessing none of what the world says is essential.
Would you join me today in reflecting over what standard we employ in measuring the abundance that Jesus provides?
