The Compassion Experience is coming to Alsbury, July 28-31.
The Compassion Experience is a 1700 square feet interactive depiction of daily life for children living in extreme poverty. This is an opportunity to travel overseas without leaving Burleson.
Sponsorship of a child through Compassion International is $38 a month. I know the difference sponsorship makes in the lives of impoverished children. One child Phyllis and I sponsored was V.J. Kumar from India. We sponsored V.J. for almost 20 years.
We received regular letters from V.J., sharing details of his life in Bangalore, India. We witnessed growth in every area of his life. We know our monthly support helped his parents greatly and reminded V.J. that God cares deeply about him.
During the experience, you will be immersed in the lives of children from Guatemala and Uganda. You will see their homes, walk through schools and markets and hear stories that start in poverty but end in hope — all from the perspective of the children. This free event is appropriate for all ages and is an excellent opportunity for anyone to get a small glimpse of what life can be like in developing countries.
Alsbury will be focusing on children living in Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Haiti. Tim Newton is planning a 2019 mission trip to Guatemala. Our own Jody and Trish Kennedy live and serve in Nicaragua. Susan Dodson is coordinating a second trip to Haiti this fall. Our hope is to have a direct impact upon the communities our teams visit.
All through July we will consider how best to engage our neighbors across the street and around the world with the gospel. Sponsoring a child through Compassion International is one of many ways.
- Pray that many will visit the Compassion Experience at Alsbury.
- Pray, also, about sponsoring a child.
- Consider volunteering a few hours while the exhibit is on our property.
- Most of all, pray for the children in Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Haiti that our church will directly and eternally impact.
