“Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12 NIV
Dawson Quillian, one of the boys in our children’s ministry, was baptized on Sunday evening. A newer Alsbury practice is to gather around the family afterwards in prayer.
John Mark Tittsworth said something in his prayer over Dawson and his parents, Derek and Beth. His words have stayed with me all week. While not an exact quote, it went something like this:
“Lord, we know Dawson has not received a child’s portion of the Holy Spirit. Your Spirit fully indwells him and you have fully gifted him.”
Our young people are not waiting in the wings for their day to serve and lead.
They are not “something less than” adult Christians.
Our young people are equally gifted by the Spirit.
They are equally empowered.
They have equal standing with all others.
This Sunday, May 29, we will gather at 10:30 to celebrate all that our Lord has done, is doing, and will do through the young people of our church family. We will have only one worship service. There will be no small groups. This is also a newer Alsbury practice on each fifth Sunday. One Family/One Service.
Our Student Pastor, Tim Newton, will bring the message. Our student praise band will lead us in worship. We will recognize our High School graduates, too.
I am so very grateful for the young people of the Alsbury family. I look forward to gathering with you to affirm and celebrate.
