We all want to be part of something larger than ourselves. We want to positively impact our world and Alsbury is poised to do just that.
Matthew 28:18-20 provides Jesus’ marching orders for each and every Christian.
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
Jesus directs the Church to “reach and to teach.”
We tend to do the teaching part well. Our calendar is filled with sermons and Bible studies! There is no shortage of teaching at Alsbury. We fail, however, to make reaching people without Jesus a priority, ignoring the commission Jesus gave.
It will be obvious when sharing Jesus with a lost world becomes our priority. Missions and outreach events will be planned well in advance and will be well funded. The majority of us will be involved in engaging our neighbors with the gospel.
I challenge you to participate in the following opportunities:
- Fully-funded teams are sent to the Port Arthur area monthly, for hurricane relief efforts. The next trip is November 17-19. Register to participate using the link provided: (Hurricane Harvey Demo and Clean-Up)
- Our next all-church outreach effort will be “Jingle Jam” on Friday, December 8. Jingle Jam is a Family Outreach Experience hosted by the Alsbury Kids’ Ministry and Alsbury Teen Ministry that celebrates the hope we have in Jesus. We’ll eat, laugh, play games, and start a conversation with your family about the true joy and generosity of Christmas.
- On Friday, February 9, we plan to host our third “Night to Shine,” a prom-like event for people living with intellectual or developmental differences. I say “plan” because adequate budget support is necessary if our church is going to host again. You can volunteer and/or donate to Night to Shine by using the link provided: (Night to Shine)
