Our Teens are Under Attack

Our Teens are Under Attack

Do you remember what it was like being a teenager?  For most of us, there are good memories, but also plenty of awkward moments, challenges, and struggles navigating those formative years. As difficult as it was for you and me growing up, our teenagers today are under attack like never before.  This may seem a little extreme in an attempt to grab your attention, so let me share with you the current state of our teenage culture.

The Current State of Teenage Culture

The Nuffield Foundation found that twice as many teens experience episodes of depression and anxiety that their counterparts from 30 years ago. Several years ago the American Psychological Association released a study that states that normal children today report more anxiety than child psychiatric patients in the 1950’s.  Time magazine reports that the suicide rate among teenage girls has risen approximately 70% since 2010.   It is estimated that 94% of kids have seen pornography by the age of 14.  In fact, the average age of first exposure is between 8 and 11 years old.  And I could go on…

A Plea for Help

So YES, our teenagers are under attack from the enemy.  And I need your help.  I am pleading for a call to prayer.  Would you commit to pray for our teenagers specifically this weekend?

This weekend over 700 teenagers from all over the Burleson area will join together for a Christian Conference called STORM.  Students will experience engaging worship, Biblical teaching, practical advice, and meaningful fellowship with each other.  And this year we will be addressing the important topic of purity in a sexually saturated culture.  If the church is to be relevant and the Christian worldview is to be taken seriously, then we cannot shy away from addressing these important and pressing topics that our teenagers face daily.

Will you pray?

  • Pray for students to hear God’s truth filled with grace.
  • Pray for freedom from bondage for our students.
  • Pray that students will experience the love and forgiveness Christ offers when we fail.
  • Pray for the strength and courage to stand against the attacks of the evil one.
  • Pray for a mighty movement of the Spirit of God.

Will you pray?
