“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus . . .”Philippians 2:5
Scripture directs us to love one another, forgive one another, pray for one another, and serve one another. Each is foundational to a healthy community of Christ followers.
We need only ask what priority Jesus would set when determining our response to any aspect of this life we share with others. Jesus would love, forgive, pray for, and serve others.
- Regardless of the circumstance.
- Regardless of the consequence.
The biblical record provides clear instruction. The only question to answer is what our response will be. Will we love, forgive, pray for, and serve one another?
“Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”1 John 4:11
“Even if someone sins against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”Luke 17:4
“Bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”Luke 6:28
“Now that I have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.”John 13:14
Sunday I acknowledged that I once considered such challenges as “graduate level Christianity.” I do so no longer. I now realize these are among the elementary things of our faith. These are the basic instructions for you and me; the people of God.
