My experience on mission at Casa Hogar Children’s Home in Reynosa, Mexico
by Joe Gonzalez
I admit I was a little nervous, but very excited anticipating my first mission trip. It was awesome being with fellow members of the group and getting to know them on the 10 hour drive.
Upon arrival, I was not prepared to be overwhelmed with emotion. The children were so happy to see us. They gave each of us a hug and asked our names.
Casa Hogar was not what I expected but more…it really was as BJ described, an “oasis!”
It was a privilege to help with the chores each day, but most importantly we experienced the joy of seeing the smiling faces of the children loving our attention when we spent time with them. We had great fun pushing them on the swings and slides and playing a good game of soccer. It did not take long to realize what Shawn Thomas said was so true,
“Hugs go a long way here.”
The hardest part of the trip was leaving. These children truly love “Jesu Christo,” and His love shines in their little eyes. They have wonderful memories of BJ and the love and devotion he had for them, and it was an honor to be a part of continuing that legacy.
